Soccer Video Games: FIFA vs. Winning Eleven
I know this is a post about video games on a site devoted to soccer, but as these are two of the top soccer games in the world I find it a worthy discussion topic.
I LOVE the Winning Eleven
In a moment of madness I decided trade in my Winning Eleven 8 and purchase FIFA 06
I would be a huge fan of EA Sports hiring all of the people who make Winning Eleven to make the FIFA game and then we could have all of the official team names/jerseys/players AND the better gameplay.
If you have played one or the other or both, please let me know your thoughts.

What Josh said. I’m the exact same. FIfa 2001 and 2002 were awesome for me, though I was down with ISS 64 way before. Then, on some demo dvd of various games was we6..i could NOT get enough of it. So I bought it. And have bought the new incarnations on the day they have came out ever since. I have not touched a FIFA since trying my friend’s fifa 2003…it was absolutely horrible.
I hear you. winning eleven is the best soccer game out there right now. My roommate and I bought fifa 2006, played one game, and haven’t played it since. We’ve been playing winning eleven 8, then 9 ever since.
The only saving grace of FIFA was the Manager Mode where you got to simulate all the games without having to play (sounds like a similar thing is being added to WE10). That said, it speaks for itself when you have to simulate the matches in a video game in order to enjoy it. That would be like simulating all the races in Gran Tourismo 4.
Oh, and if my wife is reading this, I’m sorry for making you get up at 3:30 in the morning on a weeknight to drag me away from playing WE9.
I personally think that both these games have their ups and downs, i just recently got WE9 and think the gameplay is superior to fifa 06’s, but the selection of clubs in WE9 is a let down 4 me personally, second of all, id rather play fifa wen playing against human competition since it would be more exciting seeing more goals, its jus too hard to score in WE9, although it could be easier against human competition rather than com. I have been a solid fifa fan 4 most of my life so it would be hard 4 this game to totally break it’s hold on me.
Gameplay on the winning eleven series is not that much better than FIFA’s… The lack of everything thats everything in WE series just sums up how bad a game it is. FIFA 06 is great, and FIFA 07 will be even better. Gameplay is better in 07 and have you seen how terrible graphics for WE 10 are for the 360! They look like PSP type graphics. Pretty lame for a game that gets all the hype.
WE9 is fun, but the MAJOR flaw, is the in-ability to override the “computer assisted” movement of your player automatically. Using the R1 R2 to override either pauses your player, or moves him erratically in a different direction briefly.
Player should continue on the computer-chosen route when no directional is pressed, but immediately override once you move the stick.
Frustrating when you try come on to a pass and the player just sits there, or you have to watch a cross sail over your head into open space because you couldn’t hit R1 R2 in time.
If that were fixed, this game would be perfect!

Are you talking about single or multiple-players game play?
Even if you have manual switching on (single), you don’t have to switch to a person every time you pass. The only time I’ve experienced the lag when switching players is on defence or if it is a loose ball situation (ball is rebounding of the post/defender).
The pause/direction change does happen when playing with others. Although it is very brief, it can be frustrating.
I started playing WE9 and got addicted. The gameplay is the a lot better than Fifa anything. I feel like the person who made fifa never played a day soccer in his life but a lot of money buy the rights of a tons of teams. The only thing that WE is missing is the teams, better refereeing (One- One fouls when the next defender is the goalie should result in yellow cards) and whenever player gets injured they always grab the same body part to make more realistic. Other than that the game is perfect and is a lot better than Fifa by far. Fifa is more people who know nothing about soccer.
I have played both on the psp and Fifa 07 is much better, the controls are much simpler, it has much better graphics and it has the play choosing (instead of using the directional pad and stick as movement) Winning Eleven is wayyy too complicated and sometimes the players have holes through them and that’s a turn off.

Actually, there seems to be some clever fellow using the same e-mail address (posting from the same IP address in Uruguay, by the way!) for many different names. Moreover, he has cleverly (as much as someone who says “buyed” can be clever) mimicked the names of people who previously commented. Here you go, Akismet, have an e-mail address and IP.
Winning Eleven is garbage. The gameplay is so lame. Passes look so fake on WE. In FIFA 07 you can see them glide with the correct spin on them. Shooting is much more realistic on FIFA 07. FIFA has a bunch of teams anyways. Mexican League included.
winning eleven is the better game hands down. who cares if you dont have the real team names, the gameplay is far superior than fifa anyday. fifa is getting better but it still feels fake, they don’t have the physics down (players feel like they’re on turbo the whole time) and if you like games where the score is 7 - 0 and playing counter attack every which way then play fifa, because you obiviously suck. winning eleven is a finesse game, fifa is the run straight and shoot and score boring shit
I used to like FIFA series in the olden days. But when i began to play WE series. FIFA went to the garbage can immediately.
I admit I also love the WE series. However, I have read there were major problems with the online matchmaking of the new WE game when it was released in Europe. The lag made online matches unplayable.
Hopefully WE can resolve these issues because I have played some FIFA 08 and they have made some significant strides in the quality of gameplay.
I think WE still edges them in that area, but with network problems and other things pushing the North American release date for WE later and later, FIFA may be the only soccer fix for a while longer.
Alright…who am I kidding…I’m still playing the last version of WE. I can wait a few more months.
Ok, Guys I need some help here. I havn’t even seen or heard of WE I’ve always Played FIFA up to 2001 (it sucked) and I haven’t played soccer on any system for atleast 6years now. And today I was recomended by two of my Co-Worker who are Brazillian (lol dont those guys love soccer.) . any way they both told me FIFA SUX. sompare to WE. But it is hard to believe. By reading the negative feedbacks on this site. I can see both sides. this is what I’m going to do. I’m gonna buy both FIFA 2008 and WE 07? and then the 08 when it comes out and I’ll tell you which one I honestly think is better. WHY? ‘Cause I don;t give a dam about who make it. how it looks or any polictical reasons. You can get a cheap used copy of WE07 at a used game store. Otherwise, WE08 should be out in the states in March.
Buy FIFA 08 if you like the sound of money being flushed down the toilet.
What should I do if I just like the sound of the toilet flushing? What then?

Y’all should scrap the video games and buy FM 2008. The game has an “addictedness rating”, and my rating on FM 2007 reached “turning your underwear inside out saves on washing”.

ok guys, Both of these games are pretty damn addicting. I’ll tell you what. The only sport I’ve EVER played or even like to, is Soccer and WE does have a better plays. what does it really mean? It is a lot harder compare to FIFA. In WE you Make the players move to your abilities. however it is not so great if you just wanna play a game and have a good time. the Graphic in FIFA is better not by much EA Game does have better gaming tech thats all. I’ve been playing these two games and it really depends on my mood. Fifa is fun for a drinking game, when youre playing with other people. I personally like WE when I play by myself because the moves are more realistic and it takes a mind of a chess player to score. its a bit more challenge. now Only if FIFA and WE can be on one disc that would be the WORLD PERFECT SOCCER GAME.

If FIFA and WE got together on the same disc (i.e. FIFA licensing with WE gameplay) I would pay $120.00 for the game - no question. Seriously, I would have to quit my job and never leave the house again.
those guys who love EA’s FIFA probably havent played a second of real life football. try having a kickabout and then play the FIFA and WE to see the difference : )

you Can’t Judge what people say on here, I mean seriously. How many seconds have you played real life Soccer? the only sport I ever watch and play was Soccer but that really doesn;t apply to Video games. For example if you were really good at first person shooter(Call of Duties, Metal of honnor ect… that doesnt mean you’re good to go to Iraq. We’re talking about video games how its supposed to be fun and joy full regradless of what the game really is in real life. its preffence

I’ve seen one military commercial that directly makes that correlation.
The Army actually developed their own video game.
In fact the armed forces hold tournaments on Halo3 and other games. (If you search “Halo 3 sniper school” in a search engine, you’ll see an example.)
In conclusion, WE is the best.

FIFA 2007 is the best soccer game ever. I mean realistic passing, shoot, runs, off the ball movements, commentary, crown, teams, game modes…. i could go on and on.. Fifa 08 is like and upgrade but you wait to see fifa 09.. its gonno be crazy.
Oh! WE whats is that!! its a game for non-footballs fans. the teams are fake, the game play sucks… its kinda unreal to say, poor graphics, fake pass and shoots, hard to score, i play this game for a week and GAVE IT AWAY… there is no game like FIFA 07..

Yes, well, I’m not sure if you noticed how easy it is to score in soccer matches in the real world.
I can give you that fifa has better commentary, teams, game modes, but the “passing, shoot, runs, off the ball movements” are far better on WE/PES.
I understand how you wouldn’t be able to grasp that given it was so hard to score in PES that you could only handle your ego being trampled for a week before giving up.
To that end, FIFA 08 has definitely closed the gap on WE/PES and I have heard great things about FIFA 09 so we shall see what the future holds.
