Henry joins Reebok
Thierry Henry has signed an endorsement deal with Reebok. The Arsenal striker will join an incongruous list that includes such non-soccer celebs as rapper Jay-Z, Basketballer Yao Ming, Actress Christina Ricci, and Baseball pitcher Curt Schilling for the “I am what I am” anti-racism campaign.
Reebok was recently purchased by Adidas, a move that industry experts say will allow the merged company to legitimately compete with Nike, who has effectively made sponsors out of many of the best soccer stars.
The Henry deal comes as a big surprise, since he has featured heavily in Nike’s Joga Bonito ads. With the Reebok sponsorship deal set to begin on August 1, Henry will presumably continue to appear in Nike’s soccer commercials through the 2006 World Cup. (Though, Adidas has exclusivity during the World Cup.)

Very disapointed!!!! Nike as well as Adidas make much better soccer boots than REEBOK will ever make. Their inocous stlye and cheap quality will never sell even with Theiry and Sheva in the fold!!

If you ddin’t know, Adidas now owns Reebok and I can only assume you’ll see a very high quality football boot in the near future. I’m also sure they’re making his shoes anyway he likes. It’s not like Nike is a great boot maker; I’ll take Copas anyday.

Reebok is a joke. Nike is the best providor of soccer boots, with adidas second to it. There isnt a single reebok boot that suits Henry, even after they ewnt and created one for him. The vapor suited him, sleek, and extramly light weight. built for a player whos fast. All reebok boots are ugly and cheap. and just because adidas owns reebok it means nothing other then that adidas will make more money. all sorts of car companies own other car companies. Henry woulda done better to have stayed with Nike, and with the amounts of money he makes, i think its stupid that he would go to a cheap company like reebok just for an extra buck.

But the difference of Micheal Jordan was that he was going to an elite company like Nike. Nike is a high end quality for every sports. Comparing Nike to Reebok is like comparing a Pontica to a Ferrari, just doesnt cut it.

I think that’s the wrong comparison to make. adidas now owns Reebok so you should be comparing Nike to adidas.
But even still comparing Nike to Adidas isnt the same. Adidas simply doesnt have the diversity that Nike does. Nike has made itself an elite equiptment provider in every sport. And even though Adidas is right now in the sponsore for the world cup. Nike is the highest soccer provider. And i cant remember where but i read that once the Adidas contract runs out with Fifa on the world cup, that Nike was getting it. I still dont understand the point of saying that just because Adidas owns Reebok that it means compaire Nike to Adidas instead of Reebok. Volkswagen owns Porsche, and yet if you’re to compare a car to a porsche, you dont say well Volkswagen owns it, so lets compare it to Volkswagen instead of Porsche. It simply owns the other company, doesnt mean that Adidas is going to turn reebok into another company. It still runs it in the same lower quality fashion, just now Adidas makes some profit off of it.
