Howard loaned to Everton

This is really good news.

Tim Howard has agreed to a loan transfer deal that will put him at Everton for next year’s Premiership campaign. Howard has made 77 appearances for Manchester United but has not seen much playing time since United signed keeper extraordinaire, Edwin Van Der Sar.

If Howard truly is the USMNT “keeper of the future,” as everyone insists, it is important that he sees first team minutes. Howard will compete with Richard Wright for the starting position.

Couldn’t agree with you more Josh. I was lucky enough to watch Howard in a training session about 2 years ago. I have been coaching for a lot of years but I have never seen anyone with as soft of hands as he has and pure athletic ability. The big knock of course on Howard is his flakiness sometimes in the decisions he makes. I am hoping he has gotten through some of that working day in and day out with the worlds best trainers and working with Van de Sar.

First team action on a big stage but without the pressure of Man U will be a perfect place for him.

I’m delighted with this news. Seeing TH ‘ride the bench’ was depressing.

He does make some awful decisions; however, the athletic ability to which you referred has alowed him to save himself from himself.

That’s going to have to change as he ages and his body doesn’t do everything he wants it to. The stint at Everton will be a great chance for him to show that he’s matured.

Sometimes Howard’s decision making reminds me of former England back-up and Man City keeper David James . Hopefully Howard can avoid a calamitous legacy of that nature.

Did your use of the word “calamitous” intentionally refer to his pejorative moniker “Calamity James”?

Most definitely.

Ever heard Renton Laidlaw – European golf announcer? Totally reminds me of something he’d say, in that hushed British golf accent of course.

Not his fault, is it?
