World Cup match calendar application
It isn’t very often that I find a reason to add a new category to ThroughBall.com. But I came across World Cup KickOff yesterday, and realized that I need to add a category to account for soccer technology.
World Cup KickOff is a web app that allows you to create and download a schedule of World Cup matches filtered by all participating countries, by specific group or by individual country in Outlook Calendar, iCal or generic ICS formats. The generic format is, of course, the most versatile, since you can have the information at your fingertips on your cell or PDA.
Pretty neat, I’d say. For more info, see developer Simon Jobling’s blog. The only suggestion I can offer is to incorporate television/radio broadcast information. It’s a pipe dream but it’s my dream…

Hey, I’m finally on the cutting edge. Had my I-cal set up like this 3 months ago. Unfortunately my mac at home is not updated with the latest OS and it does not work with OSX 10.3.3.
I actually contacted the Thunder several months ago about doing this very same thing. They are considering it. I found a guy who published a calendar for the Chicago Fire like this. What is really cool is that he updates the calendar after each game with game stats. So you can take a look at yesterdays calendar the day after the game and see all the stats from the game on that calendar event. Very cool!

Now, that is really rad. The possibilities boggle my mind!
Thanks for the review Josh. It’s great to see people outside of the UK talking about World Cup KickOff as well…
As for the TV suggestion, I did consider that but the problem would be accumulating all the data from around the world. In a perfect world, it would also supply local pub and bars that were showing the matches but I’m guessing that would be most pubs throughout June. It won’t exactly be hard to watch the games throughout June.
Si,
I was just thinking about how labor-intensive it would be to collect all the TV data. Ack!
You suggestion that most pubs will carry the matches is spot-on for your homeland. However, bars here would be reluctant to carry the match if there was something like a rerun of Saved by the Bell to show instead.
Good recommend, Josh.

Yeah, or maybe a tractor-pull.
Josh and anyone else-

Davedejour and KJ have just created a calendar for the MN Thunder and Lightning. This is a subscribable (is that a word?) calendar and he is post dating with stats the same way the guy from Chicago is. This is way to cool!
bq,
That’s pretty rad. Thanks for the heads-up.
And yes, subscribable is a word if you click your heels and believe…:-)
