Free Microsoft Excel spreadsheet: World Cup tracker
A few weeks ago, I began looking for a good bracket template to give away on the ol’ site. Nothing I found really scratched my itch and anything I tried to create myself looked really, really awful. That’s when the template design gurus at Microsoft came to my rescue.
I’m sure some of you like to rail against Microsoft. You might even tread upon that well-worn path to comedy gold by replacing the “s” in Microsoft with a dollar sign, like this: Micro$oft. You’re pretty funny, aren’t you?
I present to you, straight from the Template Gallery at microsoft.com, the 2006 World Cup Tracker. Simply enter the scores of each game and sit back as the Excel formulae enchant your soul.
This could be used for stricly recreational purposes or could be easily implemented as a handy tool for your office pool. Enjoy!

Speaking of office pools, why don’t you faciliate one on here? It could be for money, but pride and bragging rights are equal to any sum of money. With all the hits you’re sure to be getting with the Carnival of American soccer, I can’t think of a better site on which to participate.
They provided a pretty nifty one for the last Euro Cup that I filled in diligently.

Osvaldo – thanks for your work to produce this worksheet. This is, though, the 2006 Microsoft version which you have adapted for 2010 – in fact the “calculation” tab (hidden) still lists the 2006 regulations. My question is: are you sure that all the rules applied in 2006 still hold in 2010? And that the progression from round 1 forward follows the same rules as in 2006?
yes they do, they are the same progressions rules, the last time fifa had a different rule was back on 94 with the third place qualifiers, funny story that Italy was one of them and they almost went to win the World Cup only to be defeated by Brasil.

I have put an interactive world cup planner for South Africa 2010 on my website, its free to download and use, all i ask is that you give me feedback in case there are any fixes required tot he formulas.

hey mikskov, thats for that. do you know if it is safe to run the sql connector program if I am using excel? does this simply make a connecttion from my excel sheet to their sql database? can i run a competition on my pc for my friends or do i have to use googles site for that? Cheers
@daderb: it is definitely safe to run the sql connector, it is just so that excel can communicate with the mysql database. you can download it from the original provider if you feel safer: http://www.mysql.com

This is a World Cup 2010 Bracket Calculator for the office pool or the like I developed. It is available in Microsoft Excel format and Apple Numbers format. Simply enter the participants picks then enter the actual results and it calculates a point total on the number of correct picks. For the Group phase you pick who will finish first and second, for the knockout stage you fill in who wins the match-up. There is no entering of scores.
Jack’s World Cup calculator (comment above) is simple to use and even includes a leader board for up to 50 players. Check out my review of his calculator:
