Carnival of American Soccer #2

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the second Carnival of American Soccer! I’ll be your guide as you take in the sights and sounds of World Cup revelry.

Every good midway has enchanting games. Ours is no different. This carnival offers a change to test your knowledge with a game of World Cup trivia. And because our carnival is also instructive, you can learn how to conduct your own game, a World Cup office pool, if you’d like.

Take a left at the next corner to find that milk jugs and water pistol-driven race horses take a back seat to more heady things. Here, an out-of-work ride operator with a big belly will educate you about the qualities of experience and innocence and their effect on the American game.

Before you leave, I encourage you to take a ride on a roller coaster of World Cup memories. A caution: men ought not spend too much time on this ride or they may suffer serious reprecussions.

When is the next carnival?

I would like to submit my blog post Soccer in German-American Relations which
+ invites Americans to a Game Watching Party in Berlin, organized by the German Fulbright Alumni Association;

+ recommends a book and a funny post about Soccer and American Exceptionalism;

+ mentions some statistics concerning the increasing popularity of soccer in the US; and

+ quotes President Bush’s comments on soccer.

I hope you enjoy the World Cup! Good luck for the US team and keep up the good work on your blog.

Thank you!

Cheers,
Joerg
