Local media and World Cup coverage
In anticipation of most local media outlets not covering much—if any—World Cup-related news, I thought it might be a good idea to contact them ahead of time.
Rather than being confrontational (especially before-the-fact), I thought it might be a good idea to give them a little positive reinforement, like so:
Dear Sports Person,
I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your sportscast/column/talk show. You are <insert compliments here>. For these reasons, I’m really looking forward to your World Cup coverage. Since we don’t get a lot of good local soccer reporting, I’m counting on you to give us the goods!
Thanks!
Soccer Fan
If researching individual contacts or writing individual notes feels like too much effort, I’d encourage you to go here to send a mass email to your local media. Simply provide your ZIP Code, check the media organizations you want to contact, and click “Compose Message.” It’s that easy.
Please leave a comment if you have done this or if you have other ideas.

dearest throughball.
as a “local media member” i applaud your *positive* pre-emptive strike.
as a “connoisseur of comedy” i applaud stephen colbert who last night said, “i’ll teach you how to decipher between the boring scoreless matches, and the *riveting* scoreless matches.”
Chris,
I expect to see video of your report on the U.S. Czech Republic game on Monday.
