Robot soccer watched primarily by robots, Peter Crouch
Unless you were really paying attention, you missed out on RoboCup 2006 which took place in Germany last week. RoboCup, as best I can tell, is an event wherein a bunch of robots play soccer.
Incidentally, the match commentators were also robots who seem to have attended broadcasting school with Dave O’Brien:
“…if a player scores, the robo-announcers can recognize it, then search internal lists for phrases or actions to celebrate, such as waving their arms or saying ‘Awesome goal!’”
RoboCup 2006 ended with the host country, Germany, taking 11 of the 33 “Gold Cups,” with China, Japan, and Iran (whose robot is rumored to be “very good” with Uranium) rounding out the top four.
