Additions to the Soccersphere

The title is misleading. These contributors to the Soccersphere have been around for awhile; it’s just that I’ve only recently added them to my small list of regular reads (scroll down to the sidebar heading, “The Soccersphere”).

You expect them to write about The Beautiful Game? Well, they do that (and well). But there’s something else that I find interesting about Soccer-Weblog and The Offside.

Check out the logos from these two sites:

Do you see how similar the soccer player silhouettes are? Moreover, they aren’t only similar to each other, but they are also very much like the silhouette on the home page of this site:

There are two ways of looking at this:

1) We are a bit uncreative and all bought stock images, designed by the same person, from the same site.
2) We all have great taste.

It’s probably both.

For the world to know.

#1) Since no one else commented on this and I find it amusing (thank you Josh for your observation of humor in the world)-One of the only things I have found amusing today- I must comment and say that Soccerweblog looks like a striker, a soccer player who is a finisher striking the ball with vengeance (and down-spin or out-curl) to kill the ball into the net. Seems angry to me.

#2) The offside is just a bit gay -not that there is anything wrong with being gay, because there isn’t- but I’m just not sure what the triple image is doing and why the ball is so are away from them.

#3) Throughball’s logo reminds me of a thoughtful midfielder scanning the field, ball close to his feet looking for options, thinking, thinking, thinking. Does this resemble anyone like yourself Josh?

Heading over to watch the Augsburg vs. St. Olaf game tonight at Augsburg. Thank God for the beautiful game.

To be honest, the first time I saw the Throughball.com logo, I wondered why Josh put a silhouette of a basketball player on his website.

Heh.

It definitely looks a little like the Jerry West NBA logo.
