What the Croatian Football Federation security commissioner , Zoran Cvrk, said about the incident is pretty interesting:

“It was a crazy situation. There are plenty of left-wing supporters in Italy and our fans were being provoked. They were being called communists, so they tried to be funny and make a joke with their bodies and produced a swastika. That was not a pleasant experience for the Croatian Football Federation. Or for the Croatian Government.”
