Stuff I didn’t write about
There were two kinds of stories last week: some I covered, some I didn’t. Following are the stories I wanted to share with you but didn’t have the time:
- 58% of Players Treated on Pitch during World Cup were not actually injured
- USA To Play In Copa America (complete with a sweet professorial Gulati picture)
- An article about MLS attendance numbers
- Another article about MLS attendance numbers
- Rooney’s future … talent fights temper

58% of Players…
Seems more than a skosh low…
I’ve mentioned this before, but even as a life-long soccer player, the incessant “injuries” very quickly make me ill when watching a match.
The problem is that there is no penalty for faking it. I say that if you’re down for more than a set period of time (perhaps 30 seconds), the stretcher gets brought out, and when they carry you off, it’s for good. No more “magic sponge” and back on the field after a miraculous recovery.

Here here. Only serious injuries really require more than that amount of time.
I do love the “magic sponge” and the “magic spray”. I suppose the TV crews can still capture that exciting action on the sidelines though.
