Not having a stadium is a Real problem

real.jpgSalt Lake County mayor (there’s some discrepancy as to his title, by the way; some reports refer to him as the “major”), Peter Corroon, and the Salt Lake County Council denied $30 million in hotel tax money to help fund the construction of a soccer-specific stadium for Major League Soccer side Real Salt Lake.

That sucks. In fact, that sucks almost as much as the name Real Salt Lake.

Some people believe that Real Salt Lake owner, Dave Checketts, who also owns the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (try telling that guy which sports are popular!), will now look to either unload the MLS team or move it to a new city. Of course, this puts St. Louis back in the running for an MLS franchise. On the plus side, if the team does move to St. Louis, the re-branding process should be pretty easy.

Update: Colorado’s potential re-brand, however, leaves me utterly dumbfounded.

My only recommendation is to lose the crown and replace it with the Arch.

Costs to much money to be “replacing” things. I’d suggest just crossing out the tips of the crown, leaving an arch-like shape.

In terms of color scheme and design, the Rapids would appear to be borrowing heavily from the Avalanche, both Kroenke Sports Enterprise entities.

Never hurts to marry a Wal-Mart heir I suppose.
