Beckham coming to Minnesota to face…

The Minnesota Thunder will hold a press conference tomorrow to introduce the first “Copa Minnesota” where the Los Angeles Galaxy will take on what the Minneapolis Star Tribune is calling an “unspecified team.”

Some have speculated that the team would be from “south of the border.” A source close to the situation, speaking on the condition of anonymity, informed ThroughBall.com that the “unspecified team” is one of the most well-known professional clubs in Mexico. The source declined to name the team on the record but added that “chances are good” that David Beckham will play.

The Thunder hope to set an all-time professional soccer attendance record with this game and inviting a top-flight Mexican club might just be the way to accomplish that. The current attendance record of 46,164 dates back to 1976 when the New York Cosmos faced the Minnesota Kicks.
