Quality: fantasy football roundup
Notes from the third week of ThroughBall.com Fantasy Football League:
A quality team
League-leading Misley FC was, at one point this weekend, ranked the 8th-highest in the world. You read that correctly; out of 1,194,815 fantasy Premiership players across the world, the manager of Misley FC, who also happens to be my wife, was number eight:

I feel like I should mention that she saw her first soccer game in December 2004. Ouch.
A quality league
Of the 83,073 leagues participating, the ThroughBall.com Fantasy Football League is ranked 1,212. That puts us in the top 15% of all leagues. Well done, players!
A nice guy
Cruzeiro EC is skillfully managed by William Wolfrum. Bill joined the league with the stated goal of making the rest of us feel better. If this were a not a fantasy league, Bill might start to worry about relegation.

Congrats to Mrs. Throughball! 8th in the world is quite an accomplishment, even if it didn’t last through the weekend.
And congrats to everyone else for placing the Throughball league so high. Perhaps Josh’s carrot is bringing out the best in all of us.
Well thanks for the profile, Josh. Look forward to learning more about everyone here, as I give everyone a head start and then go totally Manchester United on ya’ll.
Thus far, my plan is unfolding brilliantly. Just in case, however, here’s a thought: Maybe the last place finisher should get a Leeds United shirt.

It is very cool that she was 8th at some point, but I do have to say it is pretty interesting that see decided to put Sibierski at captain (who had the most points this week) after having Lampard at captain the first two weeks and after a week two where Lampard had the most points….. Why would you change captain from Lamps to any Wigan player? Good call in the end, but crazy.
I think Mrs. Throughball enjoys an informational asymmetry over the rest of us. Still trying to crack that code that caused her to choose Sibierski as captain . . .
I’ve asked her to make a rare ThroughBall.com appearance to explain her choices. I, too, was skeptical (at the start of the weekend, that is).
It’s my debut comment!
Despite having a pretty good run during the 2006-2007 fantasy league, I decided to change my strategy this season:
1) Take risks.
2) Don’t wait on players who are injured or suspended.
I decided that I couldn’t count on Lampard with Chelsea playing a dangerous Liverpool. I transferred Ronaldo for Sibierski since he looked solid his first two weeks. I thought Sibierski would have a good chance at scoring against a recently-promoted Sutherland.
A little strategy + a little luck = a good week.
That’s my girl! Smarter, by far, than the average soccer novice, with an analysis both spot on and intelligent. Makes me proud to claim her as (almost) my own!
